Jelling Monuments – Denmark’s National World Heritage Site
Every Dane should at least once in their life visit Jelling and see the historic Jelling stones. The Jelling Monuments are considered some of the finest in all of Europe from the Viking Age. It is Denmark’s Baptismal Certificate, and their history is the reason why the monuments and the surrounding area have been included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, along with only 6 other places in Denmark.
Kings’ Jelling
Also, visit the Kings’ Jelling experience center. The center is part of the National Museum of Denmark. At the experience center, you can learn more about the Viking kings Gorm and Harald, their runestones, the large ship setting, and the gigantic palisade that was erected more than 1000 years ago. In 2019, you can experience a special exhibition about the Danish finds, Treasure or junk. Kings’ Jelling is located right next to the Jelling Monuments.

Givskud Zoo/ Zootopia
Danhostel Vejle is just a short 20-minute drive from Givskud Zoo, designed as a zoo where you drive in with your car. At selected spots inside the park, you park your car and continue on foot. A large and unique zoo that, in addition to the many animals, also has special exhibitions such as large lifelike dinosaurs.
You can easily spend a whole day at Givskud Zoo, which also has a large pride of lions where you can drive directly into the lion enclosure with your car. A great outing for the whole family.
Denmark’s Best Zoo Givskud Zoo is very popular and one of the most acclaimed zoos in Denmark. For the second year in a row, the park has been named Denmark’s best zoo. And for a good reason. There is something for the whole family here, good access to the animals, as well as good dining areas, play areas, and more.
Givskud Zoo is also known as Zootopia.
A Good Tip from Us We especially recommend viewing the wolf pack where you get really close to the large wolves and look them in the eyes. These impressive animals can easily give you a shiver down your spine.
TAKE YOUR BIKE OR GO ON A HIKING TRIP IN VEJLE ÅDAL
Danhostel Vejle is located right by the beautiful Vejle Ådal, also known as Denmark’s Nature Park. Here you will find numerous cycling and hiking trails. The most recommended is the “Bindeballestien”, which follows the abandoned Vandel railway track from Vejle through Ådalen to Bindeballe near Hærvejen. A beautiful nature trip.
Attractions in and around Vejle Ådal The area is vast, but most attractions in Vejle Ådal can be reached in about 15 minutes by car from Danhostel Vejle. You can easily enjoy a good day trip by driving to the various places if you don’t want to cycle all the way.
The most well-known attractions are Egtved Girl’s Grave, Ravning Bridge from the Viking Age, Bindeballe Merchant Farm, The Old-Fashioned Country Store and Grocer’s Museum, Randbøldal Museum with, among other things, a water experimentarium, Randbøl Heath, Frederikshåb Plantation, and Robert Jacobsen’s and Jean Clareboudt’s impressive sculptures in Tørskind Gravel Pit.
A Good Tip from Us Also worth a visit is the old baroque church in Nørup with its beautiful onion-shaped roof and the area around Engelsholm Castle and lake. The Renaissance castle Engelsholm is beautifully situated on the shore of Engelsholm Lake, surrounded by forest and park.
